Health literacy may be referred to as the process by which access to, understanding and evaluation of basic health information and services take place for the implementation of proper decisions about one’s own health. End
This is articulation of the constitute population and that such population is high Hispanic, Native American, and old. There are pretty large populations-nearly 36% of adults in the United States suffering from low health literacy and one would justifiably assume Arizona cannot be an exception to this. All these conditions call for poor health outcomes, increased expenditure on healthcare, and swell up the number of hospital admissions. Such a call and sense of urgency led to the formation of the Arizona Health Literacy Coalition meant to eradicate knowledge gaps in health and empower the communities.

Mission and Vision

The vision of health literacy for Arizona residents as it applies to better health outcome. Information on health that can be retrieved and read forms the vision with which one can become healthier.
Key Objectives
Education and Awareness: Public education to increase health literacy

Training of providers: The health care providers will be equipped properly on how to converse with the patients

Community-Based: This is the strategy that focuses on some specific community that will in the long run bridge the language, culture and education barrier

Policy Advocacy: Advocates policies that consider the health literacy aspect in public initiatives and services delivery in health

Health Literacy: Challenges

This presents a massive challenge in that most communicate in Spanish as their first language, while most do not speak in English, thus the difference in language.

Cultural Differences: Difference of cultural systems of beliefs and practices would, of course, affect perception and usage of health information.

Resource Inequality: Rural disadvantage populations lack good health facility and education resources in Arizona.

Digital Exclusion: This reaches out to the majority of the population since one has to be dependent on equipment or device enabled with Wi-Fi or skilled in using it .

Programs and Strategies

The Arizona Health Literacy Coalition is a set of approaches that better meet issues. There are:

Community Health Workshops These are more action-oriented. They do provide health information-again, oftentimes in multiple languages-on how to manage chronic diseases, nutrition, and preventive care.

Health Literacy Provider Training: The coalition partners with the medical schools and health care organizations to host provider trainings on plain language communication and teach-back methods.

Resource Development: Coalition develops educational resources such as fliers, videos, and online support in culturally responsive manners.

Collaborations: Expanded outreach to local governments, schools and community-based organizations maximized coverage and amplified programs’ impact.

Research: Identify gaps in the areas of health literacy and programs’ success undertaken.

2022 Launch
